12/27/2023 0 Comments Best double sided thick tapeThe carpet tapes were quite strong but also quite thin which was a downside for me because the top of my wasteboard is typically uneven. The Xfasten was harder to pull up than the LLPT because of the construction of the tape. Here are a few notes from my observations. Residue and Surface FinishĪfter attaching the tape for 15 minutes, then pulling it off different materials the tapes were very similar across the board. I also have notes here form using the different tapes on the jobs I was doing on the CNC. I did attempt to do some base level testing (see images above). I liked using it and for the right job (small and repetitive) it is a good choice but i probably wouldnt’ buy again.Īvailable Here – Trazon Carpet Tape Double Sided Width It is also a little more expensive than the others. However, I didn’t think it was as sticky which means you need more per part. Because of this It is also easier to use more than once. This silicone based backing makes this tape easier to pull off and on than the Xfasten. LLPT Double Sided Woodworking Tape WidthĢ5mm (1″), (also available in 35, 45, 55 & 65mm) I received 3 rolls in the pack as all the other tapes came as a single roll.Īvailable here – XFasten Double Sided Woodworking Tape 2. There was a slight pulling up of grain (which is hard to see in the images) but it is very minimal. It also peels off with no stickyness left on the material (even after being stuck for an hour.) It isn’t as strong as epoxy, but it does have good sticking power. When I tested the different tapes, it had great sticking power. It will join to itself which can make using it more than once a little difficult. It’s is like thin cloth when using it because it isn’t rigid at all. It does not store any personal data.XFasten is a cloth tape. The cookie is set by the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin and is used to store whether or not user has consented to the use of cookies. Here are some links for the stuff shown in the video: Most of us has everything we need for this already in the shop. I also found that this bond was more rigid than the one achieved with double-sided tape and I don’t get the creep I occasionally experienced in the past. While it might not be as strong as double-sided tape, it’s strong enough for the intended application. The glue bonds to the two pieces of tape and the tape bonds to the wood. With a piece of blue tape on both pieces, we can put CA glue on top of the tape and bring the pieces together for a secure bond. After trying it a few times, I became a big believer and I haven’t purchased double-sided tape since then. I initially scoffed at the idea because I was so stuck in the mind-set of using double sided tape. It shows “an old luthier’s trick” using blue tape and CA glue to effectively attach templates with no residue. Although the bond was tight, I sometimes found that the template would shift under pressure as the thick adhesive layers allowed for a little bit of creep.Ī few years ago, I came across this video from Crimson Guitars. My main issues were that it often left a sticky residue on the surface and that it would sometimes take wood fibers with it upon removal. ![]() The stuff I used was sold as Turner’s Tape. It wasn’t perfect, but it did the intended job of holding two pieces together. Double-sided tape has been a constant woodworking companion of mine since the first time I attempted a flush-trimming operation.
